The Liberal & The Liberal Media - A Reality Check

Try asking the mantra-repeating lemmings who echo their leaders, to define the word liberal, why they think you are liberal and why it is bad to be a liberal. Wait for the blank stare; it will surely appear! Maybe if you ask them, they will think about what they are saying for a change!

Would somebody please explain, in detail, exactly where the the “liberal media” is and what makes them liberal? Please do not confuse “liberal” with “honest”. Just because some media actually report the stories as they occur, it does not make them liberal. It would be nice to to know when “liberal” became a bad word and why is it so?

This site receives a fair amount of e-mail. Most of the e-mail is positive but the negative e-mail usually contain no information of value, no corrections, no sage advice. They usually contain insults, or at least comments that the sender thinks is an insult; the most common, of course, is the term “Liberal!” This lazy uncurious bunch refuse to think for themselves and would rather blindly follow their idols. A common trait among this group of people who are too lazy to verify their idols’ claims, is that they like to threaten violence. Violence and insults seem to fit into the value system of non-liberals. But let’s get back to the “insult”; regardless of the accuracy of the claim (calling us liberal), when we write back to the mantra-repeating lemmings who blindly echo their leaders words, and we ask them to define the word liberal, why they think we are liberal and why it is be bad to be a liberal, we never hear back from them. Try asking that very question to a person who calls you a liberal. Wait for the blank stare; it will surely appear!

For the lemmings:

    5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
    6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
    7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.

  • Why America Does Not Need a Liberal News Network
  • Another liberal column. Right? - The mainstream media in this country are dominated by liberals. - I was informed of this fact by Rush Limbaugh. And Thomas Sowell. And Ann Coulter. And Rich Lowry. And Bill O'Reilly. And William Safire. And Robert Novak. And William F. Buckley, Jr. And George Will. - And John Gibson. And Michelle Malkin. And David Brooks. And Tony Snow. And Tony Blankely. And Fred Barnes. And Britt Hume. And Larry Kudlow. And Sean Hannity. And David Horowitz. And William Kristol. And Hugh Hewitt...

  • Move Over, Right Wing Radio - the Liberals Are Coming - TVNL asks: CONTACT THESE PEOPLE TO HIRE THE EDITOR OF THIS SITE AS A HOST!
  • New York publishers shift right in a drive for readers - The success of Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and other conservative authors has led many publishers to turn more to the right.
  • Bush's Media Partisans Whine Again - Granted that a journalist's job is to "say mean things" about people in power when they abuse the public trust as Bush does on a daily basis.
  • Conservative Journalists' Dirty Little Secret - ‘Conservative news organizations are popular, he admitted, "because they feed the rage. We bring the pain to the liberal media. I say that mockingly, but it's true somewhat’
  • U.S. TV lacks liberal slant - One of the abiding myths south of the border is that liberals control the media. Of course, the rubes who prevaricate such folly are the conservatives who control the media.
  • BOOT BUSH, TONY - PM warned he will be election 'target' - TONY Blair has been told he must distance himself from President Bush. - "With Clinton the right-wing was always trying to undermine him. Part of it involved a Conservative press that infected the atmosphere. Some of that exists here in Britain." - TVNL comment: The rest of the world can clearly see the US’ conservative press. Note there is no mention of a liberal media?
  • Britain — not quite a parallel media universe - In comparison, the leading “liberal” dailies across the Atlantic — The New York Times and The Washington Post — are mouthpieces of corporate power and US empire. If the Times and the Post were being published in London, British readers would consider those newspapers to be centrist or even conservative. -  “Compared to the United States, we see impartiality as giving a range of views, including those critical of our own government's position.” - The willingness of news media to challenge leaders is a vital sign of democracy. But overall, in the United States, the pulse is weak.
  • Frustrated Democrats complain of media bias - Democrats in Congress claim the mainstream print and broadcast media are giving the Bush administration and Republican leaders on the Hill a free ride. - These lawmakers complain that the press holds President Bush to a much lower standard of accountability than it did President Clinton. Bush’s predecessor weathered such media firestorms as Whitewater, Travelgate, and Monica Lewinsky
  • No Question: The Media Is Right - It used to be big news when leaders were dishonest. The media forced politicians of both parties to pay a price for even the slightest infraction. Just ask Al Gore, who was tarred and feathered for a few careless comments about the Internet. That has changed. The media now barely flinches when the truth is distorted. In just a few years, the same media that tenaciously attacked the last White House over the tiniest appearance of impropriety now barely reports when the current White House deceives, hides information and knowingly ignores hard facts.
  • Network won't run 2 ads for Democrats - A statewide cable news network late Wednesday pulled the plug on two Democratic Party television ads that targeted Gov. Jeb Bush and House Speaker Johnnie Byrd. - TVNL comment: I suppose this network is an example of the liberal media :-)
  • Persuaders or Partisans - A new Harvard study says the conservative editorial pages are more intensely partisan, and far less willing to criticize a Republican administration than the liberal pages are to take on a Democratic administration.
  • A Positive, Liberal Vision of The Future; 37 Ways Democrats Will Make the USA Better.
  • Stern predicts end of radio show is near - Howard Stern, sounding grim and depressed, said Friday on his top-rated morning show that he expected to be forced off the radio within three months, the victim of a political and financial campaign driven by right-wing religious conservatives. He urged listeners to vote against President Bush in revenge.
  • Murdoch brings in Bush adviser - The US national security adviser Condoleezza Rice is to address the News Corporation thinktank involving Rupert Murdoch's most senior newspaper executives from the UK, US and Australia. - She will will deliver her speech by satellite at the invitation of Mr Murdoch's Fox operation, which includes Fox News which has been hugely supportive of George Bush and achieved notoriety in the UK during the Iraq war for its ultra-patriotic reporting. - Mr Murdoch's News Corp summits are seen as key opportunities to influence the political bias of his news outfits.
  • 7 ABC affiliates ordered not to air 'Nightline' - Sinclair Broadcast Group has ordered its seven ABC stations not to broadcast Friday's "Nightline" that will air the names and photographs of the more than 500 U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war. - According to campaign finance records, four of Sinclair's top executives each have given the maximum campaign contribution of $2,000 to the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. - The executives have not given any donations to the campaign of Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic nominee, the records showed.  - TVNL Comment: Say all you want about the liberal bias in the media but when you talk about right wing bias you talk about censorship. Regardless of the the opinion content in the media the right has embarked an a mission of censorship which can be best described as cold war Soviet style media control
  • Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush - The Walt Disney Company is blocking its Miramax division from distributing a new documentary by Michael Moore that harshly criticizes President Bush, executives at both Disney and Miramax said Tuesday. - The film, "Fahrenheit 911," links Mr. Bush and prominent Saudis — including the family of Osama bin Laden — and criticizes Mr. Bush's actions before and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. - TVNL Comment: What exactly is different between the US under Bush and pre-war Nazi Germany? Oh, wwe know; Hitler was actually elected democratically with a popular majority. Sounds like a Disney boycott is in order!
  • Watchdog group report - Despite a perception that National Public Radio is politically liberal, the majority of its sources are actually Republicans and conservatives, according to a survey released today by Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, a left-leaning media watchdog. - "Republicans not only had a substantial partisan edge," according to a report accompanying the survey, "individual Republicans were NPR's most popular sources overall, taking the top seven spots in frequency of appearance." In addition, representatives of right-of-center think tanks outnumbered their leftist counterparts by more than four to one, FAIR reported.
  • Wasn’t Jesus A Liberal? - Liberalism has been under assault for years now. The battering of this grand political philosophy has altered the contemporary definition of liberal to the point that Conservatives use it as a profane word. They use it to paint a political opponent as anti-God and anti-American. It has gotten to the point that moderate and liberal Christians are afraid to be open about their political leanings. Sadly, it even affects their conscience and choices as they enter the voting booth. This is particularly troubling to me as a Christian evangelical minister who loves America.
