Aaron Rodgers, once thought to be entering the political sphere himself, is looking forward to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Senate confirmation hearing with enthusiasm.
Kennedy, who has spread anti-vaccine misinformation and other conspiracy theories, is President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. A date for his confirmation hearing has yet to be announced.
Brittany Martinez came to Washington with friends and their mothers to protest for women's rights and immigration Saturday.
"We really wanted to come to support women, equality, immigration, everything that really feels like we don't have much of a say in right now," she told USA TODAY.
The six women were waiting in a park for the People's March, the largest anti-Donald Trump protest planned before his inauguration Monday, to begin moving. Martinez of Jacksonville, Fla. held a sign that said "Public cervix announcement. My body, my choice."
Thousands of people surrounded them in pink knitted hats, scarfs with the Planned Parenthood logo or Kamala Harris gear. A little girl sitting on her father's shoulders carried a sign that said "pizza rolls not gender rolls." Others held handmade signs that said "new year, same fight," "I'm pissed," "feminists Trump fascists" and Trust Black women."
Special counsel Jack Smith has resigned from the Justice Department after submitting his investigative report on President-elect Donald Trump, an expected move that comes amid legal wrangling over how much of that document can be made public in the days ahead.
The department disclosed Smith’s departure in a court filing Saturday, saying he had resigned one day earlier. The resignation, 10 days before Trump is inaugurated , follows the conclusion of two unsuccessful criminal prosecutions against Trump that were withdrawn following Trump’s White House win in November.
In a brief order, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the charity’s appeal that the denial violates the First Amendment’s religious protections.
“Put another way, it doesn’t matter if Catholic Charities gives a cup of water in Jesus’ name, because non-religious charities offer cups of water too,” the group wrote in its petition. “That absurd result deepens a split between state courts that require religious entities to conform to stereotypes to qualify for the ‘religious purposes’ exemption and those that do not.”
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be ambassador to Israel, has long rejected a Palestinian state in territory previously seized by Israel and has repeatedly signaled his staunch support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Huckabee, a former TV host and Baptist preacher, frequently visits Israel and once said he wanted to buy a holiday home there. He has maintained throughout the years that the West Bank belongs to Israel, and recently said “the title deed was given by God to Abraham and to his heirs.”
His argument for a so-called “one-state solution” contradicts longstanding official U.S. support for the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state.
He has described the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas as “horrific” and " beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime” and argued that the U.S. needs to stand firmly behind Israel.
