U.S. urges Pakistanis to keep Musharraf, despite election defeat

The Bush administration is pressing the opposition leaders who defeated Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf to allow the former general to retain his position, a move that Western diplomats and U.S. officials say could trigger the very turmoil the United States seeks to avoid.

TVNL Comment: So where are all the people who actually believe that this administration has any interest whatsoever in democracy? This administration is all about power and control. Period, end of story.

Terror police feared gun battle with Israeli general

Scotland Yard allowed a suspected war criminal to escape Britain because officers feared an attempt to stop him would lead to a gun battle at Heathrow airport, police documents seen by the Guardian reveal.

TVNL Comment: That's a great reason to let a suspected war criminal get away! I wonder if they would let a suspected war protester get away for the same reason; or a suspected holocaust denier for that matter.

The media reports this ridiculous story and they expect the public to believe that they let this "Israeli" go because they were afraid to get into a gun battle! We are talking about terror police here! And the public swallows this crap! This is a perfect example of the media shaping public perception! They report the most unbelievable excuse without batting an eye. This is not journalism, it is mind control.

At least 26 tourists killed by gunmen at a resort in Kashmir, Indian police say

Kashmir attack

Gunmen shot and killed at least 26 tourists on Tuesday at a resort in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said in what appeared to be a major shift in a regional conflict in which tourists have largely been spared.

Police said it was a “terror attack” and blamed militants fighting against Indian rule. “This attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” Omar Abdullah, the region’s top elected official, wrote on social media.

Two senior police officers said at least four gunmen, whom they described as militants, fired at dozens of tourists from close range. The officers said at least three dozen people were wounded, many of them reported to be in serious condition.
