A U.S. military judge says a soldier who pleaded guilty to involvement in the slaying of four bound and blindfolded Iraqis will be jailed for seven months and dishonorably discharged from the Army.
Spc. Belmor Ramos, 23, had faced a possible sentence of life in prison for conspiracy to commit murder but worked out a plea agreement.
US seeking sole command of Nato's war against the Taliban
The Bush administration is pushing for sweeping changes to the military command structure in Afghanistan, so that the head of international forces would report directly to US Central Command instead of Nato.
The changes would have huge repercussions for Nato, whose officials have stated that Afghanistan is a "defining moment" for the organisation's ability to conduct large-scale operations abroad.

CIA using missile strikes to 'tickle' terrorists
The Central Intelligence Agency is using strikes against enemy targets to learn how the groups respond when attacked, the agency's director said Wednesday.
Speaking at the Air Force Association's annual conference, Michael Hayden said the clandestine agency is trying to "tickle" enemy groups to provoke a reaction, often with missile strikes targeting just an individual.
"We use military operations to excite the enemy, prompting him to respond. In that response we learn so much," said Hayden, a retired Air Force general who has led the CIA since 2006.

Airport screeners bypassing security
A new policy lets airport screeners at Denver International Airport bypass security screening checkpoints that passengers have to go through
"Lunch or a bomb, you can walk right through with it," said Mike Boyd, an aviation consultant in Evergreen. "This is a major security issue."
The new, blue uniforms have metal badges that set off alarms when screeners go through the checkpoints. Sources say the TSA is worried that the screeners will remove the badges while going through security and that they'll get lost or stolen.
The TSA says that is not the reason for the policy change.

However, they are in the final throes of stripping America of any remaining vestiges of sovereignty as has been laid out in the Treasury "Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory System."
Officials call off controversial autism study
Health officials have called off plans for a study examining a controversial type of treatment that some autism activists have touted as alternative medical therapy for children with the condition.
The National Institute of Mental Health, or NIMH, part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, said in a statement on Wednesday that it has canceled a study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of a treatment called chelation.
