Separate Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed two media workers, including an Al Jazeera journalist.

Hossam Shabat, a journalist who worked for Al Jazeera Mubasher, was killed in northern Gaza on Monday. Witnesses told the network that his car was targeted in the eastern part of Beit Lahiya.

Azzoum said Shabat, 23, had been previously wounded in another Israeli attack “but he insisted on continuing news reporting” in Gaza.

A Palestinian director of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land has been arrested by the Israeli army after masked settlers attacked his house.

According to five Jewish American activists who witnessed the attack, Hamdan Ballal, one of the four directors of the the film that documented the destruction of villages in the West Bank, was surrounded and attacked by a group of about 15 armed settlers in Susya in the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron.

The Supreme Court on Monday turned away casino mogul Steve Wynn’s bid for the court to consider overturning its 61-year-old precedent that has protected journalists from libel lawsuits.

Wynn urged the justices to use his lawsuit against The Associated Press to revisit the 1964 landmark decision, New York Times v. Sullivan, which requires a showing of “actual malice” for public figures to hold newspapers and journalists liable for defamation, a high legal bar.

President Trump has long called for reducing libel protections for the press, and conservative Justice Clarence Thomas has said multiple times the precedent should be overruled.

Former New York Times executive editor Max Frankel, a journalist who had integral roles with the paper for nearly half a century, died on Sunday in his New York City home, the newspaper reported. He was 94.

His tenure as executive editor between 1986 and 1994 led to the paper covering more city and sports news. According to a Times obituary, he also ushered in an era where diverse voices were included in the newsroom. He retired at the end of his executive editorship.

The White House said Monday a Signal group chat discussing a U.S. attack on Houthis in Yemen that inadvertently included Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, "appears to be authentic."

Members of the Trump administration coordinated highly sensitive war plans on the unsecure group chat, Goldberg wrote in a report for the publication on Monday.

White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes shared with ABC News the statement he provided to The Atlantic confirming the veracity of a Signal group chat, which Goldberg said appeared to include Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among others.

"At this time, the message thread that was reported appears to be authentic, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain. The thread is a demonstration of the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials. The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to our servicemembers or our national security," Hughes said in the statement.

TVNL Comment:  Hughes' comment is idiotic. Everything is OK as long as the operation went ahead successfully.  The horror of this breach of security apparently escapes him.

A federal judge refused Monday to withdraw his block on President Donald Trump’s deportation flights of alleged members of Venezuela’s crime gang Tren de Araragua under the Alien Enemies Act.

Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg ruled that any Venezuelans the Trump administration seeks to deport under the Alien Enemies Act should get a chance to deny membership in the gang before being deported.

The Trump administration previously appealed Boasberg’s temporary block on the flights. A hearing is scheduled Monday afternoon at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Boasberg’s decision is the latest salvo in a battle between Trump, lawyers fighting his policies and the judiciary sometimes temporarily blocking his orders. Trump called for the impeachment of Boasberg and other judges that have ruled against the administration. But the impeachment talk sparked a rare rebuke from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who said the recourse for adverse decisions is to appeal them.
