Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez said she has had enough of orders from Washington, in a speech to a group of oil workers broadcast on Venezuela’s state-run television network Sunday.

Rodríguez’s remarks come a little more than three weeks after President Trump announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in an audacious military raid in Caracas. He has since declared the U.S. would take over the country’s oil industry and dictate orders to the government. 

“Enough already of Washington’s orders over politicians in Venezuela,” Rodríguez told a group of oil workers in Puerto La Cruz, CNN reported. 

“Let Venezuelan politics resolve our differences and our internal conflicts. This republic has paid a very high price for having to confront the consequences of fascism and extremism in our country.”

Trump greenlit Rodríguez staying in her role after the capture and transfer of Maduro to New York to stand trial for criminal drug charges. 

Trump told reporters last week that Rodríguez had “shown very strong leadership so far,” “had done a very good job,” and was working with the U.S. to move millions of barrels of oil “into the United States.”

A private jet carrying eight people crashed during takeoff from the Bangor International Airport in Maine on the evening of Jan. 25, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The FAA told USA TODAY that a Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed as it was taking off from the airport at around 7:45 p.m. local time on Jan. 25. Eight people were on board the aircraft.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident. Maine State Police are assisting local authorities, a spokesperson said.

"An incident at the airport is under investigation," the Bangor International Airport said in a Facebook post shortly before 8:30 p.m. local time. "First responders are on scene and assessing the situation."No additional details were immediately provided, but the airport said the runway was closed and urged the public to avoid the airport. According to FAA, the airport was closed.

A general strike shut down Palestinian towns inside of Israel on Thursday, leading to the four main parties representing Palestinian citizens of Israel agreeing to run on a ‘joint list’ in the next Knesset elections, with their leaders signing a pledge titled “Joint List Now.”

The strike was called to protest surging crime and killings in Palestinian communities and originated in Sakhnin. Demonstrations were held in northern towns, including Umm al-Fahm, Shefa-‘Amr, Tamra, Majd al-Krum, and Kafr Manda, with larger protests planned in Sakhnin and Rahat, followed by rallies in Nazareth and Kafr Kanna on Friday.

The Higher Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel said the spike in violence stems from state neglect and held the Israeli government responsible for unchecked criminal gangs and their killings, according to information shared by Sada News.

She navigated segregation to become an esteemed mathematician — and today, her work helps billions of people navigate the world.

Gladys West, whose pioneering career contributed key elements to what became the GPS satellite system and was later acknowledged as a "hidden figure" of GPS, died Saturday at age 95.

West "passed peacefully alongside her family and friends and is now in heaven with her loved ones," her family said as they announced her death.

West is credited with astounding accomplishments in mathematics, playing pivotal roles in charting orbital trajectories and creating accurate mathematical models of the Earth's shape that would eventually be used by the GPS satellite orbit.

But, as West admitted to member station VPM in 2020, she did not really rely on the groundbreaking system she helped create.

For over four decades, Republican presidents have banned U.S. funds from going to groups that provide or promote abortion — and Democratic presidents have reversed the ban.

On Friday at the March for Life rally in Washington, D.C., Vice President JD Vance announced a major expansion of the policy. The Mexico City policy, named for where it was first unveiled, will now also bar funding to groups that promote "gender ideology" and diversity, equity and inclusion.

"We believe that every country in the world has the duty to protect life," said Vance. "We're expanding this policy to protect life, to combat DEI and the radical gender ideologies that prey on our children."

The administration is also expanding the policy beyond non-governmental charitable groups to larger organizations that cross country borders, like U.N. agencies.

Vance's announcement was met with cheers from the large crowd of March for Life participants gathered on the National Mall. Each year, anti-abortion advocates gather in D.C. for the rally.

Nekima Levy Armstrong and Chauntyll Allen, who were arrested and charged for their role in an anti-ICE demonstration that disrupted Sunday church services in St Paul, Minnesota, have been released.

Video of the two women posted online showed them emerging from detention on Friday, raising their fists and embracing their loved ones. “Thank you all for being here,” Levy Armstrong said. “Glory to God!”

A federal judge ordered their release earlier in the day, ruling that the government had failed “to meet its burden to demonstrate that a detention hearing is warranted, or that detention is otherwise appropriate”.

A judge has also ordered the released of a third activist involved in the church protest, William Kelly, saying he was not a danger to the public, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

On Thursday, the White House was caught posting a digitally altered image of Armstrong’s arrest on social media, which had been manipulated to falsely portray her as crying, and to darken her skin.

The decision by Donald Trump’s justice department to conduct no investigation into the deadly use of force by Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good, a Minneapolis resident who was moving her car out of the way of federal agents when he opened fire, reportedly distressed federal prosecutors and a leader of the FBI’s Minneapolis field office, according to reporting from MSNOW and the New York Times.

A report for MSNOW (formerly MSNBC) by Carol Leonnig, a four-time Pulitzer prize winning investigative reporter, and Ken Dilanian begins:

Aides to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche directed the U.S. Attorney’s office and FBI agents based in Minnesota to shut down a civil rights investigation into an officer’s fatal shooting of Renee Good and instead alter it to probe Good for possible criminal liability, according to three people briefed on the discussions.

After Good was killed on Jan. 7, FBI agents drafted a search warrant to obtain her car to reconstruct the path of bullets that an ICE officer shot into the vehicle. But they were instructed to redraft their warrant and change the subject of the investigation from a civil rights probe to an investigation into a suspected assault on an officer, the people said. A federal magistrate judge rejected that warrant, noting that Good was already dead and could not be considered a suspect for a warrant.

Many of the countries that signed on to join President Trump’s “Board of Peace” to stabilize Gaza are also banned from immigrant visas by the State Department. 

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Morocco, Mongolia, Pakistan and Uzbekistan are among the 75 countries the Trump administration has deemed likely to require public assistance while living in the United States.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed consular officers to halt immigrant visa applications from these nations earlier this year. 

“President Trump has made clear that immigrants must be financially self-sufficient and not be a financial burden to Americans,” the State Department “The Department of State is undergoing a full review of all policies, regulations, and guidance to ensure that immigrants from these high-risk countries do not utilize welfare in the United States or become a public charge,” it added.wrote in a release last week.
