Bridget BrinkU.S. ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink intends to resign from her post early, three sources told CBS News.

The State Department confirmed her intent to step down Thursday afternoon.

"Ambassador Brink is stepping down. She's been the ambassador there for three years – that's a long time in a war zone. And frankly, the war has gone on for far too long," a State Department spokesperson said in a statement. "The real issue is whether the Russians and Ukrainians are ready to do what's necessary to end this war."

Trump Orders Nearly 1 Million Migrants Who Entered US Legally to Leave Now

CBP OneIn yet another Trump administration attack on migrants, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Monday announced that nearly 1 million migrants who entered the country legally using a Customs and Border Protection mobile application must leave "immediately" or face consequences including potential criminal prosecution.

DHS notified migrants who were granted temporary parole protection after entering the country using the CBP One app—which was launched by the Biden administration in 2020 and upgraded in 2023—that "it is time for you to leave the United States."

The department "mis now exercising its discretion to terminate your parole," the agency said in an email to affected—and more than 200,000 unaffected—migrants. "Unless it expires sooner, your parole will terminate seven days from the date of this notice."

"If you do not deport from the United States immediately you will be subject to potential law enforcement actions that will result in your removal," the notice continues. "You will be subject to potential criminal prosecution, civil fines, and penalties, and any other lawful options available to the federal government."

White House freezes funds for Cornell and Northwestern in latest crackdown

Cornell , Northwestern funds frozen

In early March, the Trump administration sent warning letters to 60 US universities it said were facing “potential enforcement actions” for what it described as “failure to protect Jewish students on campus” in the wake of widespread pro-Palestinian protests on campuses last year.

The president of Cornell University, which was on the list, responded with a defiant op-ed in the New York Times, arguing that universities, and their students, could weather debates and protests over the war in Gaza.

“Universities, despite rapidly escalating political, legal and financial risks, cannot afford to cede the space of public discourse and the free exchange of ideas,” the Cornell University president Michael Kotlikoff wrote on 31 March.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration froze over $1bn in funding for Cornell University, a US official said. The administration also froze $790m for Northwestern University, which hosts a prominent journalism school.

Democrats demand answers over book removals at military service academies

Books removed at military academiesTwo House Democrats sent letters to the secretaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force on Monday demanding answers over the recent removal of books at service academies.

Reps. Adam Smith (Wash.), ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, and Chrissy Houlahan (Pa.), ranking member of the Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee, sent the letter after the Naval Academy said it removed 400 books from the Nimitz Library collection.

The academy said the removal was to comply “with all directives outlined in Executive Orders issued by the President.”

The letters sent by the Democrats say the review focused on books that had topics relating to “gender ideology” and “discriminatory equity ideology.”

“If true, this is a blatant attack on the First Amendment and a clear effort to suppress academic freedom and rigor at the United States Naval Academy. Moreover, this reported book ban — or any similar efforts that may be ongoing at the United States Military Academy — displays an alarming return to McCarthy-era censorship,” the representatives wrote.
